Nigeria: Tinapa Organises Trade Fair to Attract Business

Twelve Months after it was commissioned by former President, Chief Olusegun Obasanjo, Tinapa Business Resort and Free Zone, in Calabar, has witnessed low business activities and leisure. Other programmes associated with the zone have been on the lowest ebb and the management has blamed it on lack of legislations.

Consequently, the managing director and chief executive of the zone, Chief Bassey Eyo Ndem, has said that all the procedures and guidelines have been tabled before the Federal Executive Council, and the out come is still being expected from the President and members of the federal executive council.

"Procedures and Guidelines have been presented to the Federal Executive Council, we are expecting Mr. President and the federal executive council members to make official declaration on the multi billion Naira projects. Lack of legislation is affecting the proper take-off of the project, the MD stated.

In the interim, to bring activity to the zone, the management of the zone has planned a ten-day trade fair, scheduled to hold from May 29, June 7, 2008 at the Tinapa Business Resort and Free Zone in Calabar. The trade fair tagged, ˜1st Tinapa Trade Export" is jointly organised by the Zone, in conjunction with Whizzo Promotions and intended to create a forum for business activities, leisure and networking.

The event which has been endorsed by the Cross River State government and National Association of Chambers of Commerce, Industry, Mines and Agriculture (NACCIMA), targets indigenous and foreign investors in the public and private sectors.

The EXPO, according to our source, is a unique business opportunity. The trade fair would attract participants from West and Central Africa, Asia, Europe and other parts of the world.

The managing director in a press conference, Monday, 2008, stated, "Tinapa's free zone status and duty free incentive would be enjoyed by participants, with goods to be consigned to Tinapa Expo Enterprises, a special purpose enterprise to receive goods for the expo from overseas' participating companies.

ECOWAS trade scheme benefits for participants within the sub region, one-stop approval for all participants' goods and services, a guaranteed expanded market for exhibited products and services.
